Cairo means "the victorious city", is the capital city of Egypt, located in the extreme Northeast of the African continent. It borders Libya to the West, Sudan to the South, to the North is the Mediterranean Sea and to the East is the Red Sea and Israel. Having over 17 Million inhabitants it is one of the largest urban areas of Africa.
Cairo is an acient city and is well known for its pharonic importance through history. There are many sights to see including the most famous Pyramids of Giza, sittuated at the edge of the city bordering on the vast sand of the Sinai desert, it is hard to imagine how close this magnigicant sight is to civalisation, until you have seen it with your own eyes.
The official language is the arabic although tourism-related professionals and businessmen also speak English, Russian and French, amongst many more.
You can find restaurants and fast food outlets everywhere making an abundance of traditional Egyptian food.
Located aproximatley 15 miles from Cairo airport, the journey takes around 30-45 minutes.

Things to do in Cairo
Papyrus Museum at Giza
The Papyrus Museum is an excellent place to visit even if you are not interested in buying as there is no entrance fee or purchase required. However, most tourists do end up buying something given the brilliant quality and variety of the exhibited works. The institute provides a very interesting demonstration, available English, on how the papyrus plant was turned into a writing material by the ancient Egyptians that was able to survive for thousands of years.
This Papyrus making process is also demonstrated in the Pharonic Village, though in more authentic surroundings, but the museum offers a good substitution if you are unable to arrange a visit to that location.
Khan El-Khalili 

Located in the Old Cairo, is a highly fashioned commercial and one of the oldest bazaars in Egypt. With narrow streets, were you can find lot of shops each with their own factory or workshop, selling a variety of clothing, spices, perfumes and other goods at reassonable prices. There are also a variety of small and traditional coffe houses and restaurants.
The Ahmad ibn Tulun Mosque
This mosque was built for Ahmad ibn Tulun in the year 879 in the 9th century, it is the oldest mosque in the city. It is constructed around a courtyard, with one covered hall on each of the four sides, being the largest on direction to Mecca.
The Citadel of Cairo
The Saladin Citadel of Cairo is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Cairo.The citadel also contains Al-Gawhara Palace, the National Military and the Police Museum.
The Hanging Church
It has a basilican style and is the most famous Christian Church in Egypt.
It is located in the Roman Fortress in the Old Cairo, which it was named after.
The church has been restored many times, one of them was by Pope Abraham.
